Design of higher order filter is an important aspect of the building power inverters that connect to the electric grid. These power electronic converters play an important role in many renewable energy applications. It has been seen that smaller filters can lead to improved efficiency compared to traditional rule of thumb designs.

Some of the other areas of work are related to design of integrated filters for use with long cables connecting to motor loads, control and testing of power converters used in distributed power generation. The filters, in this case, can be designed to address both common mode and differential mode excitations.

Recently we have been working extensively on microgrid in the laboratory. Issues investigated are related to residential photovoltaic systems, battery systems and battery management systems, ultracapacitor storage, the operation of inverters with diesel generators, single phase to three phase conversion, and microgrid inverter design and protection.
